Children (ages 6 and older) and adults are eligible for testing services as long as the specific diagnosis in question is appropriate for that age group.
Common areas of evaluation include: ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, IQ/intelligence, learning disorders, developmental delays, emotional and behavioral disorders such as anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, and intermittent explosive disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder and other trauma-related disorders, personality disorders, schizophrenia spectrum and other psychotic-related disorders, and more. In short, many of the diagnoses listed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-5th Edition (DSM-5) are available for evaluation.
I operate on a self-pay basis so I do not bill insurance companies for testing services. Clients pay out-of-pocket for testing services and I accept cash, check, and credit cards. A $50 non-refundable deposit is required to schedule an appointment and the remaining balance is due at the time of service on the day of the evaluation.
Testing sessions can vary slightly based on the number and type of areas being assessed and the age of the individual being tested. Children are expected to be accompanied by a legal guardian. Testing sessions typically consist of completion of demographic paperwork, an interview with the client (and guardian if the client is under 18 or an adult with a legal guardian), individual assessment with the client, completion of rating scales by parent, client, and/or teachers, and review of school, previous testing, or other mental health records provided. Diagnoses provided in the evaluation report are based on a review of all available evidence.
Each evaluation is a little different, but you would typically want to prepare for a 4-hour session to complete all parts of the evaluation process.
I will provide clients and parents with preliminary feedback at the end of the evaluation session. Final diagnoses will be provided in the evaluation report that will be mailed to the address provided by you. Evaluation reports are typically completed within approximately 30 days.
The evaluation report will contain information such as the reason for the testing referral, a summary of background information and reported symptoms, results of each test administered and a summary explanation of the test results, DSM-5 diagnoses resulting from a review of all available data, recommendations for treatment based on the reported symptoms and resulting diagnoses, and a list of helpful websites and resources for further information related to diagnoses and treatment options.
I try to provide as much information as reasonably possible in the evaluation report, however, the report is a summary of all the information collected and reviewed during the evaluation. If you would like to further discuss your testing results or if you have additional questions about your testing results or recommendations, an evaluation feedback appointment can be scheduled by phone for an additional cost of $50.
Yes. If a client is under the age of 18, the parent or guardian will be required to stay on site for the length of the evaluation. Guardians actually participate in a large portion of the evaluation including the interview and completing one or more rating scales while the child is participating in individual assessment with the examiner.
If you would like to share your evaluation report with someone else, such as a primary care physician's office, therapist, school, or social security office, you have a couple of options. 1) When you receive a copy of the report, you are then free to share that report with whomever you would like to have it. 2) If you would like me to send a copy of your evaluation report to someone directly, make sure to let me know during the evaluation appointment and I will have you sign a Release of Information giving me your written permission to send the report to the person in question.
Please plan to have someone watch siblings during your child's evaluation appointment. As a parent, your attention will be needed during the interview and during the completion of one or more rating scales of your child's functioning. Bringing additional children to the evaluation appointment can present distractions, disruptions, and compromise the integrity of the evaluation. In addition, since Insight Evaluations operates on a mobile basis, we are borrowing space in the building of another's business to conduct the evaluation. We want to be respectful of their space and keep noise to a minimum as to not disrupt their day-to-day business operations. If you are an adult receiving testing, please do not bring any children to the evaluation session as your full attention will be required throughout the duration of the session.
Please plan to eat before you attend the evaluation appointment. A number of things can have a negative impact on testing performance including being distracted by hunger during the session. Make sure to eat a good breakfast or lunch before you arrive at the session. Since Insight Evaluations operates on a mobile basis, we are borrowing space in the building of another's business to conduct the evaluation and we want to be mindful of any possible food or drink restrictions that business may have. Furthermore, eating during the evaluation can negatively interfere with one's ability to participate in portions of assessments. Please plan to only bring water to your evaluation appointment.
